Fakenham Skips and Gamble Plant are sister companies, both run by the Gamble family in the heart of Fakenham.

Who are they?

Fakenham Skips and Gamble Plant

Fakenham Skips provides skip hire and waste collection for homes, builders and businesses, while Gamble Plant offers aggregates supply and haulage services.

Both companies share the same hands-on approach and commitment to doing things properly. A big part of that is making sure as much waste as possible is recycled, with processes in place to sort and manage materials responsibly.

The goal

Office Manager, Alex, came across us last October when checking out one of our previous website designs and was inspired to make changes for their own.

The brief was simple on the surface. Build websites that properly reflect who they are, get them found and clearly guide users to the end point of sale. Behind that sat some bigger goals. Increase turnover, build stronger partner relationships and secure more longer-term work. In short, give both businesses the platforms to scale.

On the functionality side, each site had its own challenge. Fakenham Skips needed an intricate booking system that delivered a well-thought-out experience from start to finish. Whilst Gamble Plant needed an ordering system that could factor in delivery surcharges and bulk discounts, without turning the process into hard work for the customer.

What we did

Design

Both Fakenham Skips and Gamble Plant are approachable, warm and, most importantly, no nonsense, so the design needed to reflect that from the outset.

Although both companies operate from the same site, that relationship wasn’t always obvious to customers. Part of the brief was to make that relationship clearer, without losing what makes each business distinct.

Colour played a big role in that. Fakenham’s iconic red and Gamble’s bright green were carried through the designs, mirroring the colours of their skips and vehicles, and creating a subtle visual link between the two.

The result is two sites that feel consistent and connected, while still giving each business space to stand on its own, supported by a solid technical base and a straightforward path to purchase.

What we did

Web build

Enter Rebecca; calm, methodical and always in control of the details. She took the visuals and turned them into something that actually works in the real world, with bespoke functionality to match.

For Fakenham Skips, that meant building an enhanced skip hire system designed to keep things straightforward for customers.

Behind the scenes, orders automatically include delivery charges based on distance, and unavailable dates can be managed easily through the back end. Keeping everything accurate without adding extra admin.

Their previous site didn’t have the ability to control booking locations, which often led to orders being placed outside of their service area and needing to be manually followed up on. Booking requests outside of the service area are now filtered out before they can be placed, avoiding the need for calls, cancellations and unnecessary admin.

For Gamble Plant, the build centred around a more flexible ordering system that could handle varying quantities without overcomplicating things. Bulk pricing was a key part of this, with the cost per tonne adjusting depending on how much is ordered, giving customers a clear incentive to order at scale.

What we did

Copy

If there’s one thing we learned about Alex pretty quickly, it’s that he likes to cut out the bull. We mean generic copy that doesn’t really say anything, so words like “dependable” and “reliable” were a hard no. And we couldn’t agree more.

These days, people connect with what a brand shows and how it feels, not just what it says. As well as the confidence to sound authentic across all platforms and interactions with clients. There’s more pressure than ever to actually demonstrate what makes you different, and strong web copy is where that starts.

We wrote copy that reflects who they are and how they work, making sure it was crafted with SEO in mind from the outset. This gave us a solid foundation to build on as part of a wider search strategy.

The Results

It’s still early days, but the impact has been clear from the start.

The Fakenham Skips site went live on 17th February and didn’t take long to get moving. The first order came through within 10 minutes of launch, which set the tone pretty quickly.

Since then, the numbers have backed it up. In the first month, orders were up 31% year on year, with revenue increasing by 22%. Search visibility across Norfolk has also seen a strong lift, rising from 8.5% to 23% since launch.

While it’s slightly earlier for Gamble Plant, the response to the new site has been equally positive, with a clear improvement in how customers interact with the ordering process. It’s a strong start, and there’s plenty more to build on from here.

From the very first contact, Nu Image took the time to genuinely listen to our wants and needs, offering thoughtful suggestions and alternative options that strengthened our vision. They didn’t just deliver a service, they embraced our company, our ethos, and took the time to understand the nuances of our industry. The improvements to our online presence have been immediate and impressive, giving us a stronger, more engaging platform that truly reflects who we are.
