Driving new customers with a 163% increase in traffic from Google Ads

The Goal

Due to the variation in commercial design projects, from 45-storey office buildings to theme parks, Cahill Design Consultants offer their services in many areas. Keeping their project board diverse and their pipeline full.

In all three key areas – acoustic design, fire engineering, and building surveying – there was capacity to fill.

Due to the focus being to grow the pipeline now, we identified paid search as the best starting channel to drive this. Building momentum and longevity with organic search, being considered in the conversation with AI search, and capturing all important new leads now with paid search.

 

What We Did

Focus on quality not quantity

Cahill Design Consultants had experimented with running Google Ads in the past, however, with Google’s encouragement to automate things as much as possible, this had led to an account that largely delivered branded conversions that we felt they would capture anyway.

So, we made the decision to focus their budget towards non-branded terms only, and therefore, new customers only.

With brand new campaigns in all three services to make campaign performance analysis and bidding control easier, we set about optimising these to deliver high intent, hot leads to Cahill Design Consultants’ door.

The Results

Naturally, by switching off terms that would deliver guaranteed clicks and conversions, we saw a dip in both areas.

However, with clear client communication to expect this, we could turn our attention to a more important metric now that we’re only focusing on getting in front of users who haven’t heard of Cahill Design Consultants before… conversion rate.

We could then tailor the ads to encourage as many relevant users as possible while tweaking the landing pages to bring as many visitors to the point of conversion.

From making these changes, we saw the conversion rate for paid search traffic increase from 1.68% to 4.44%.
