Alex Rimell. An award winning saxophonist, and a former beloved colleague here at Nu Image, has been playing the Sax since the age of 8. Today, whether it be as a solo act or alongside your DJ, he performs for a whole host of celebrations including weddings, parties, hen dos and corporate events.

The Goal

Tuning up Alex’s digital presence

A lack of visibility for his old website, restrictions in design and user journey due to page builder limitations, and missed conversion opportunities were costing Alex consistent enquiries.

His priority was ensuring his clients had a clean user experience when wanting to get in touch and that Alex got all the information he needed off the bat. His old website left him chasing after potential clients, asking about locations, dates and set lists back and forth, which was time consuming and makes juggling this alongside his day job difficult.

Beyond increased functionality, Alex was looking for something to solidify his brand. He hoped a new website would create some authority and trust, grow his reputation and up the chances of returning customers. Not to mention, his enthusiasm and soul when performing make him stand out, he needed a website that did the same.

From working with us closely, he understood the importance of investing in a bespoke website and user experience that would give his clients everything they need. From seeing the work we’ve done for others, he wanted a piece of the action and turned to us for a whole new website.

What We Did

Designed to hit the right notes

To start, it was key for our designer Stephen to address the need to guide users to key areas more clearly and provide them with all the signals they needed to understand Alex’s style and confirm whether this was what they’re looking for.

Alex’s old website had a very minimal design and lacked any direction for users. Therefore, Stephen suggested some brand colours for Alex to help with this and offer an opportunity to incorporate some recognisable branding to be used across his platforms. He chose a deep blue, the same colour as the waistcoat Alex always wears to perform, and a punchy gold for the highlights and calls to action, influenced by the gold of a saxophone. Ensuring the call to action draws the eye is crucial to any site design, as this points visitors towards the final conversion point.

What We Did

Bringing the performance to life

As well as guiding users, it was essential to get Alex’s personality and performance style across, as this would be an important deciding factor for clients and what makes him stand out from others. Photos simply don’t do Alex and his work justice, the best way for us to achieve this was video. A concern for a lot of clients when using video on the website is its negative effect on page speeds, and therefore, negative effect on SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and user experience. This is where the luxury of having an SEO team under the same roof as our developers comes in. All of our websites are put through rigorous SEO checks and tests to ensure they are built to be search friendly, and if anything, to strengthen your presence in search when they go live, not hinder it.

What We Did

No more off-key enquiries

It was extremely important that we built in areas where Alex could answer users questions and provide helpful information to guide them towards that all important final decision. So, we added both news and portfolio pages. Not only do these help users access the information they need, but they’ve also had a positive impact on Alex’s visibility. Search bots reward rich, in-depth content by citing it as a source. It also gives Alex more opportunities to direct users from his social media to his website, rather than relying only on sales focused posts to do this.

A big driver behind the increase in conversion rate was the new dynamic enquiry form. Our developer on this project, Rebecca, carried out an exceptional job in creating a simple but comprehensive form to do all the fact finding work necessary for Alex to provide an accurate quote. This has reduced Alex’s admin time on enquiries and quoting exponentially, but is also the preferred method for users who are largely looking into this in their evenings or over the weekend.

A huge thanks to the whole team at Nu Image for all their work building my site. From talking with Ian about my site ideas from the start and his vision for it, I knew that Stephen and Rebecca would do an incredible job at creating the site for me. Ben was very communicative about all the updates and progress of the site. I’m thrilled that since it launched, enquiry requests have increased, and so many clients have complimented my site.
